I-TEC RAMA PROJECT – NICARAGUA

January 29 – February 13, 2016

Gary Smedley, and Don Ames, and Tom Garber traveled to Nicaragua, along with six other men from Friends in Action. The RAMA Project is located approximately eight miles from the Atlantic Coast town of Bluefields, and is about two miles from the island of Rama Cay.  Friends In Action has worked with the local government to develop a village of forty family houses.  Rama Cay is a very crowded island that includes two hundred and thirty-five family groups and houses.  This island is approximately ¼ mile by ½ mile and is home to approximately 1,400 people.  The FIA project will provide relief for this crowded island.

I-TEC’s purpose for being on this team was to provide reliable power to all of the buildings on the FIA site.  They installed underground feeders from the Generator Building to the Wood Shop, then on to the Tool Storage Building which provides power to the rest of the buildings on site.
